The Young Authors, Young Artists Conference welcomes students in grades 3-5 from public and private schools across southeast Minnesota. Students participate in active, motivating, idea-generating symposium of sessions. The conference's focus is to promote student enthusiasm and competence in written and visual communication. Students will be encouraged to have fun with their creativity and uniqueness. This program significantly impacts children whose writing interests range from mild to avid and exposes students to the art and joy of writing. It's a great way to cultivate a child's imagination!

  • Do students attend all three days? No, you would choose one of the three. Contact Katie to find out which date will work best for you in terms of attendance capacity.
  • Where is the conference held? Rochester Community & Technical College - The Heintz Center Building.

  • Do students attend on their own, or with their class/school? We have all different scenarios. Some classes come as a group, some schools facilitate a group of whoever would like to attend (and then provide transportation), and some schools do not provide transportation, so a parent/guardian requests the student out of school that day to attend.
  • Do students need a chaperone? We advise 1 chaperone for every 10 students. That number is a guideline, and your school can choose the ratio of students to adults. We provide great signage inside the building, but it can sometimes be difficult for students to navigate. The more adult support around to help guide students, the better.
  • What is the cost?  The fee is $49 per student. That fee provides three sessions (most sessions include a take home from the day), a tote bag for the students to place their artwork in, and documentation for the day. Snacks will be given in the morning, and afternoon.
  • Is lunch provided? No, in order to save costs, and time, students will need to bring their own lunch. Snacks will be given in the morning, and afternoon.
  • Are there outdoor sessions? No, all sessions are indoors. However, if the weather is nice, we recommend going outside to eat lunch!
  • Who typically coordinates student attendance in the school? Each school is a little different: PTSA, Teachers, Media Specialists, Gifted & Talented Coordinators, Principals, a parent of a student. Some schools have the funds to provide transportation, especially if the group is large enough.
