JOB SUMMARY – This 220 day/year (0.85 FTE) position performs professional work developing career-connected learning opportunities for a consortium of small rural school districts.  Southeast Service Cooperative will employ this shared position, while work will be performed under the guidance of schools within Southern Minnesota Education Consortium (SMEC), which include Alden-Conger, Glenville-Emmons, Grand Meadow, Leroy-Ostrander, Lyle and Southland.
The position responsibilities include supporting educators and students to identify career opportunities in industries that provide promise for future job demand, sustainable wages, and potential for industry-recognized credentials that align to their interests and passions of students including, but not limited to, career clusters like STEM and CTE.  Career-connected learning includes experiences that engage employers from multiple sectors and raise student awareness (such as career fairs and classroom presentations), work-based learning opportunities (such as site visits and job shadowing), and career pathway development (including dual credit options, and internships/apprenticeships).

This position will be an important contributor to providing leadership and support to students, teachers, administrators, industry partners, and colleges in developing and maintaining experiential and/or work based learning and career pathway programs, experiences, and exploration.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. SMEC Program Coordination: Develop "soft skills" curriculum for each student participating in an experiential learning opportunity, to include critical thinking, flexibility, following direction, initiative, positive attitude, reliability, enthusiasm, verbal communications, and attention to detail. Maintain and grow best practice knowledge of career-connected learning and pathway development. Assist school administrators in meeting the expectations in each district's World's Best Workforce plan. Promote the career-connected learning and pathway opportunities within the district, consortium, and local communities.

    2. Relationship & Partnership Development: Establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with multiple stakeholders including administration, teachers, learning teams, counselors, workforce development experts, and employers. Serve as a liaison to industry representatives to promote partnership opportunities in career-connected learning experiences and pathways.  Work with administrators and department leaders to develop concurrent enrollment agreements with community colleges and other institutions of higher learning.  Represent schools/districts in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students. Grow and manage regional portal that connects education and industry.

    3. Student Supports: Lead and promote the student recruitment process at the middle school and high school levels for career-connected learning experiences and pathway courses. Assist in the recruit and orientation of prospective students for opportunities and/or enrollment. Provide career counseling support to pathway participants by defining goals, monitoring progress, and creating plans for short- and long-term goal attainment. Monitor and support students accessing college level courses for the first time.

    4. Event Planning: Work in cooperation with colleges and school administrators in planning events for college and career readiness, such as student/parent information nights and job fairs.

    5. Regional Networking: Participate in regional Career-Connected Learning Network at SSC. Provide regional information on the labor market and in demand careers of the region. Provide regional support for educators and employers to connect them with resources for professional development/training on experiential work and/or based learning tiers of support, child labor laws, etc. Monitor legislative changes and advocates for policy changes that can advance career-connected learning and career pathway work.

    6. Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain metrics to measure success and growth. Collaborate on the development of recruitment and marketing collateral.

Education and Experience Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function listed above satisfactorily. Combination of education and career experience equivalent to three years, directly relating to program development and partnership engagement. Experience working in a community college and or university environment is encouraged, and an understanding of high school graduation requirements and applicable state statutes is essential. Familiarity with grant writing and requests is preferred. A background check will be performed, and a valid driver's license with a clean record with the ability to transition between multiple work locations on a regular basis is required.

Qualifications and Skills Required: Capability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively prioritize demands, while maintaining attention to detail, quality, and timeliness. Ability to demonstrate initiative, proficiency, decision-making, and good judgment to optimize the time of those supported. Ability to effectively work with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring professionalism, diplomacy, friendliness, and firmness. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, business partners and community leaders. Comprehensive skills using standard office equipment and related hardware and software.

Preferred knowledge of available experiential work based learning opportunities, career-connected learning and career pathway potential and student-experience matchmaking skills. Preferred knowledge of each school district operations and ability to align recommendations to operational goals for each district.

Work has no exposure to environmental conditions as work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).              

Compensation: Commensurate with industry standards and local market, based primarily on experience and training and within Southeast Service Cooperative wage guidelines.
