When special needs emerge in training and school improvement, we’d be happy to explore those needs with you and help you in any way we can.  SSC's Instructional Services staff provide many types of services and training.

Facilitation of Improvement Processes:

SSC staff offers customized facilitation and consulting on teaching and learning initiatives. Staff members develop and deliver services that meet your needs ... all you have to do is ask!  We work with districts and schools to develop a system for supporting and monitoring improvement efforts. We help you implement fundamental changes in areas such as needs assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. With our support you can redefine the expectations for your schools, the improvement process itself, and the district’s role in this endeavor.

Areas of focus are determined jointly by your leadership teams and the SSC school improvement team. Services are grounded in research-based best practices and designed to improve student achievement through excellence in professional practice while building internal capacity. We facilitate planning, designing, and implementing a continuous improvement plan. We also have several improvement processes already designed and available. Our staff are certified and experienced in guiding groups through proven processes such as Data Retreats®, Surveys of Enacted Curriculum, and the 6 Steps to a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum. You’ll find more information by exploring the links to the left.

For projects involving SSC staff, the 2010-2011 rate is $650 per day, which is discounted for projects lasting more than five days.  There are additional charges for travel expenses, clerical support, and materials. Rates may be pro-rated by the hour and may be adjusted when SSC retains an independent contractor for service delivery. Services for non-members may be at a higher rate.

Professional Development Opportunities:

When training needs emerge, we are ready to explore these needs with you and help you in any way we can. Following are several types of professional development that SSC currently offers.  In addition to SSC facilitated training, we bring in other presenters with expertise about topics of interest. We also offer many educational leadership development opportunities, including School Leadership in the Digital Age with Scott McLeod, Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching Administrator Training with Elaine Phillips, and Leading Significant Change with Doug Reeves.

Our staff possess specialized knowledge in many areas of educational research and current issues. We continually strive to offer high-quality opportunities to help our members grow and learn. If we don’t have the internal capacity to provide training and professional development opportunities on a specific topic, we can leverage our partnerships and resources to help you meet identified needs. In fact, when members share their input with us, we assess common regional needs, which helps us find solutions to help our members. Rates will vary based on instructor costs, underwriting from other sources, level of coordination required, and level of participation. Here’s what we do:

  • Deliver professional development in various ways to ensure quality and cost effectiveness.
  • On-site and regional training may include use of distance technologies as well as face-to-face interaction and follow-up support.
  • Find expert instructors and other resources to best address a given need.
  • Design and deliver special topic trainings (content areas, computer training, instructional strategies, etc.) at SSC or at a member site.
  • Prepare teachers and facilitators for online learning and teaching.
  • Provide high-quality, convenient online professional development opportunities for K-12 educators.
